July 20th. Increasing south-westerly wind, later decreasing.
It was a busy morning for visible migration of Sand Martin (602), Swallow (98) and Swift (914), with waders arriving from the north and moving into the Wash: a Common Sandpiper, 2 Little Ringed Plover, a Greenshank, 52 Curlew, 24 Whimbrel, 378 Dunlin, 564 Knot and 29 Bar-tailed Godwit. Also moving south were 14 Alba Wagtail, 4 Yellow Wagtail, 37 Teal and a Hobby. Sandwich Tern numbers remained low but 4 Arctic Tern, a Yellow-legged Gull and 4 Mediterranean Gull flew south, and 3 Little Tern juveniles were confirmed to have fledged. A winter-plumaged Red-throated Diver was on the sea - an unusual July record. Around were 40 Swallow, 20 Sand Martin, a Sparrowhawk and a Green Woodpecker. On Tennyson's Sands were 203 Black-tailed Godwit, 68 Avocet, 2 Green Sandpiper, 7 Greenshank, 3 Spotted Redshank, 126 redshank, 2 Snipe, 2 Common Sandpiper and 12 Spoonbill; on Jackson's Marsh 92 Avocet, 30 Redshank, 30 Black-tailed Godwit, 7 Common Sandpiper, 3 Green Sandpiper, a Greenshank and a Grey Heron; and on Croftmarsh 2 Buzzard.
A wind-shortened morning ringing session in East Dunes resulted in 7 new birds: 5 Chiffchaff, a Blackcap and a Linnet; and 3 retraps: 2 Chiffchaff and a Blackcap.
July 19th. Around were 2 Common Sandpiper, a Sparrowhawk and a Short-eared Owl. On Jackson's Marsh were 7 Spoonbill and 3 Common Sandpiper; and on Tennyson's Sands a Greenshank and 3 Spoonbill.
A morning ringing session in East Dunes provided 6 new birds: a Wren, a Willow Warbler, a Whitethroat, a Linnet and a Great Spotted Woodpecker; and 3 retrap Whitethroat.

July 18th. Birds around included 6 Curlew and a Short-eared Owl. On Tennyson's Sands were a Spotted Redshank, a Greenshank and 8 Spoonbill; and on Jackson's Marsh 3 Common Sandpiper. Heading south were 27 Swift and a Curlew; and west a Grey Heron.
A morning ringing session in East Dunes produced 2 new birds: a Great Tit and a Whitethroat; and 4 retraps: a Robin, 2 Dunnock and a Wren.

July 17th. On Tennyson's Sands were 8 Spoonbill, 6 Snipe, 4 Greenshank, a Spotted Redshank and a Wood Sandpiper; on Jackson's Marsh 8 Spoonbill; and on Wainfleet Marsh 5000 Starling (early morning). Flying south were 8 Curlew, 120 Swallows and 140 Sand Martins. The first juvenile large gulls appeared today with both Herring and Yellow-legged Gull. A Redstart was in the East Dunes.
A morning ringing session in East Dunes yielded 7 new birds: a Chiffchaff, 2 Wren, 2 Blackcap, a Sedge Warbler and a Blackbird; and 6 retraps: a Robin, 3 Whitethroat and 2 Dunnock.
A male Southern Migrant Hawker was around the Mere - only the second site record.

July 16th. Around were a Sparrowhawk, a Short-eared Owl and a Peregrine. On Tennyson's Sands were a Spotted Redshank, 6 Greenshank, a Snipe and 11 Spoonbill; on Wainfleet Marsh 5000 Starling (early morning); and offshore 300 Sandwich Tern.
A morning ringing session in East Dunes, with Kyle Campbell, provided 8 new birds: a Chiffchaff, a Wren, a Sedge Warbler, 4 Whitethroat and a Reed Warbler; and 2 retraps: a Dunnock and a Robin.
July 15th. Birds around, including those trapped, were a Kingfisher, a Barn Owl and a Short-eared Owl. On Tennyson's Sands were 11 Greenshank, 2 Snipe, 6 Spotted Redshank, 30 Sandwich Tern, a Wood Sandpiper, 214 Black-tailed Godwit, 120 Avocet, 140 Redshank and 14 Spoonbill; and on Jackson's Marsh 2 Common Sandpiper and 11 Spoonbill. A Cattle Egret was found on Croftmarsh late evening when 680 Swift flew south.
A morning ringing session in East Dunes produced 10 new birds: a Wren, a Willow Warbler, a Lesser Whitethroat, a Sedge Warbler, a Blackcap, a Meadow Pipit, 2 Dunnock, a Blackbird and a Kingfisher; and 2 retrap Whitethroat.

July 14th. A Common Rosefinch was a surprise find this morning. Loosely associating with a flock of Goldfinches and House Sparrows, the bird appeared to be a juvenile! It was last seen heading towards North Car Park. Around were a Marsh Harrier, a Barn Owl and a Short-eared Owl. On Tennyson's Sands were 4 Greenshank, 3 Spotted Redshank, a Common Sandpiper, 2 Snipe and 16 Spoonbill; and on Jackson's Marsh a Spotted Redshank.
A morning ringing session in East Dunes resulted in 11 new birds: 3 Wren, a Blackcap, a Lesser Whitethroat, 2 Whitethroat and 4 Dunnock; and 4 retraps: a Wren, a Blackcap, a Dunnock and a Whitethroat.

July 13th. A juvenile Redstart was trapped and ringed in East Dunes. This bird must have dispersed from some considerable distance away. Other birds around included a Short-eared Owl and 28 Swallow. On Tennyson's Sands were 4 Greenshank, 2 Spotted Redshank, 67 Little Egret and 2 Spoonbill; and on Jackson's Marsh 3 Common Sandpiper and 10 Spoonbill. Flying south were 3 Swift and 6 Curlew.

July 12th. A Roseate Tern was with 400 Sandwich Tern in the morning, but most of the terns moved south into the Wash on the falling tide. On Jackson's Marsh were 8 Spoonbill; and on Tennyson's Sands a Common Sandpiper, 2 Spotted Redshank, a Greenshank and 10 Spoonbill. Going south were 11 Swift, 32 Curlew, 6 Whimbrel and a Great Spotted Woodpecker.
A morning ringing session in East Dunes produced 16 new birds: 3 Wren, 3 Blackcap, 8 Whitethroat, a Goldfinch and a Dunnock; and 3 retraps: a Chiffchaff, a Whitethroat and a Dunnock.
July 11th. On Tennyson's Sands were a Common Sandpiper, 2 Greenshank, a Spotted Redshank and 11 Spoonbill.The eighth session of CES, with Kyle Campbell, was done this morning. The 32 new birds were 5 Wren, 2 Chiffchaff, 5 Long-tailed Tit, a Robin, 2 Blackcap, 6 Whitethroat, 3 Great Tit, 2 Sedge Warbler, a Chaffinch, 3 Dunnock and 2 Blackbird; and the 6 retraps were 2 Robin, 2 Chiffchaff, a Blackcap and a Sedge Warbler.
