Early July 2022

July 10th. Heading south were 2 Curlew. On Tennyson's Sands were 2 Spotted Redshank, a Wood Sandpiper, 2 Green Sandpiper, 3 Greenshank, 14 Spoonbill and a Peregrine. Around was a Short-eared Owl.

A morning ringing session in East Dunes produced 6 new birds: 3 Wren, a Blackcap, a Linnet and a Great Tit; and 4 retraps: 2 Whitethroat, a Chiffchaff and a Reed Bunting.

July 9th. Birds around included 28 Swallow. On Tennyson's Sands were 16 Spoonbill (including a food-begging juvenile), 26 Little Egret, 140 Avocet and 2 Med Gulls. Flying south were a Swift, 12 Curlew and 11 Sand Martin.

 A morning ringing session in East Dunes yielded 12 new birds: 7 Wren, 2 Chiffchaff, 2 Whitethroat and a Dunnock; and 8 retraps: 2 Dunnock, a Robin, a Lesser Whitethroat, 2 Wren, a Whitethroat and a Long-tailed Tit.

July 8th. On Tennyson's Sands were 7 Spoonbill. Around was a Sparrowhawk. Going south was a Curlew.

 A morning ringing session in East Dunes provided 7 new birds: a Chiffchaff, 3 Whitethroat, 2 Blackcap and a Dunnock; and 9 retraps: 2 Chiffchaff, a Dunnock, 5 Whitethroat and a Robin.

July 7th. On Tennyson's Sands were 14 Spoonbill. Heading south were 23 Curlew and a Whimbrel.

 A morning ringing session in East Dunes produced 7 new birds: a Wren, a Willow Warbler, a Lesser Whitethroat, a Blackcap, a Whitethroat, a Great Tit and a Dunnock; and 4 retraps: 2 Dunnock, a Whitethroat and a Blue Tit.

July 6th. On Tennyson's Sands were 2 Spoonbill. Flying south were 7 Swift and 2 Curlew.

 A morning ringing session in East Dunes yielded 16 new birds: 2 Wren, 2 Chiffchaff, 2 Willow Warbler, 2 Blackcap, a Linnet, 3 Whitethroat, 2 Sedge Warbler and 2 Dunnock; and 4 retraps: a Blackcap, a Dunnock and 2 Whitethroat.

July 5th. On Jackson's Marsh were 8 Spoonbill. Going south were a Swift, 9 Curlew and a Spoonbill. 8 juvenile Little Egrets have now fledged.

 A morning ringing session in East Dunes provided 18 new birds: a Willow Warbler, 3 Wren, a Chiffchaff, a Lesser Whitethroat, 2 Blackcap, 5 Meadow Pipit, a Linnet, 2 Whitethroat, a Dunnock and a Blackbird; and 4 retraps: a Chiffchaff, a Dunnock, a Wren and a Blackbird.

July 4th. On Tennyson's Sands were 4 Spoonbill, 2 Dunlin, a Snipe, a Greenshank, a Common Sandpiper and a Marsh Harrier; and on Jackson's Marsh 12 Spoonbill. Heading south were 31 Curlew. Around was a Short-eared Owl.

 A morning ringing session in East Dunes produced 11 new birds: a Wren, a Chiffchaff, 5 Blackcap, a Sedge Warbler and 3 Dunnock; and 4 retraps: 2 Dunnock, a Great Tit and a Linnet.

July 3rd. On Tennyson's Sands were a Little Ringed Plover, 20 Black-tailed Godwit, 7 Dunlin and a Snipe; and on Jackson's Marsh a Green Sandpiper and 12 Spoonbill.

 A morning ringing session in East Dunes resulted in 24 new birds: 6 Wren, 2 Chiffchaff, 2 Lesser Whitethroat, 2 Blackcap, 2 Meadow Pipit, 2 Linnet, 4 Whitethroat, a Great Tit, a Yellow Wagtail, a Blackbird and a Woodpigeon; and 6 retraps: a Robin, 3 Whitethroat, a Great Tit and a Dunnock.

July 2nd. Increasing south-westerly wind, later decreasing.

 Birds around included 2 Marsh Harrier. On Jackson's Marsh were 12 Spoonbill, 30 Black-tailed Godwit, a Common Sandpiper, 3 Green Sandpiper, a Spotted Redshank and a Pintail; and on Tennyson's Sands a Little Ringed Plover, 4 Black-tailed Godwit, 2 Snipe, 2 Spotted Redshank and a Wood Sandpiper.

July 1st. Around were a Short-eared Owl and a Jay (a most unusual July record). On Tennyson's Sands were 2 Spotted Redshank, 36 Black-tailed Godwit and 5 Spoonbill; and on Jackson's Marsh another 30 Black-tailed Godwit. Flying south were 331 Swift, 35 Curlew, 140 Starling, 51 Sand Martin, a Green Sandpiper, a Greenshank and 4 Mediterranean Gulls. 3 Little Ringed Plover arrived from the east. Offshore, 196 Sandwich Terns, 14 Gannets  and 32 Common Scoter moved south. Also around were another 8 Spoonbill, a Great White Egret and 2 Whimbrel. A count of 166 Redshank included birds on the saltmarshes, Haven and lagoons.

 A morning ringing session in East Dunes provided 11 new birds: a Wren, a Chiffchaff, 3 Robin, a Chaffinch, a Linnet, a Meadow Pipit, a Blackcap, a Whitethroat and a Dunnock; and 4 retraps: 2 Whitethroat and 2 Great Tit.
