October 31st. Strong south-easterly wind, with rain in morning.

 Around were 2 Stonechat, 15 Blackbird and 4 Song Thrush. On Tennyson's Sands were 1300 Pink-footed Goose (then inland) and 10 Avocet; on Fenland Lagoon a Grey Heron and 6 Little Egret; and on Jackson's Marsh 29 Wigeon. Flying south were 4 Dark-bellied Brent Goose, 92 Little Gull, a Mediterranean Gull and a Common Tern..

October 30th. Moderately strong southerly wind, with mid morning light rain.

 Birds around, including those trapped, were 2 Short-eared Owl, a Blackbird, 2 Stonechat and 2 Goldcrest. On Tennyson's Sands were 1300 Pink-footed Goose (then inland), 2 Avocet and 13 Black-tailed Godwit; on the Mere a Snipe; on Fenland Lagoon a Great White Egret, 2 Redshank and 2 Dunlin; and on Jackson's Marsh 2 Dark-bellied Brent Goose.

 A brief weather-restricted morning ringing session at Aylmer Avenue provided a new Robin; and 5 retraps: a Blue Tit, a Great Tit, 2 Wren and a Blackbird.

October 29th. Strong southerly wind. with some early morning rain.

 Around were 1000 Pink-footed Goose, a Sparrowhawk, a Marsh Harrier, a Buzzard and a Goldcrest,. On Tennyson's Sands were 320 Pink-footed Goose, 6 Whooper Swan, a Water Rail, 3 Avocet, 31 Black-tailed Godwit, a Spotted Redshank and a Redshank; on Jackson's Marsh 25 Black-tailed Godwit; and on the Mere a Water Rail and a Snipe. Offshore were 2 Pomarine Skua, 5 Arctic Skua, 21 Kittiwake, 155 Little Gull, an Arctic Tern, 2 Common Tern and 4 Sandwich Tern. Going south were 19 Siskin.

October 28th. Moderately strong southerly wind.

 A Cattle Egret was discovered on Croftmarsh. Birds around, including those trapped, were 130 Dark-bellied Brent Goose, 3 Blackbird and 4 Goldcrest. On Tennyson's Sands were 10000 Pink-footed Goose (then southwest), a Water Rail, 3 Avocet, 40 Black-tailed Godwit, a Spotted Redshank and a Cetti's Warbler; and on the Mere 3 Whooper Swan. Heading south were 3 Red-breasted Merganser, 20 Kittiwake, 5 Little Gull, an Arctic Skua and 71 Siskin; north-west 120 Pink-footed Goose; and south-west 6 Whooper Swan. 

 A brief wind-restricted morning ringing session at Aylmer Avenue produced 4 new birds: a Wren and 3 Blackbird; and 4 retraps: a Dunnock and 3 Great Tit.

October 27th. Moderately strong south-westerly wind. 

 Around, including birds trapped, were 47 Dark-bellied Brent Goose, a Marsh Harrier, a Sparrowhawk, 4 Goldcrest,  4 Redwing and 11 Blackbird. On Tennyson's Sands were 4500 Pink-footed Goose (then south-west), 4 Whooper Swan (then south-west), a Water Rail, 3 Avocet, 21 Black-tailed Godwit and a Spotted Redshank; and on the Mere a Snipe. Flying south were a Sandwich Tern, a Marsh Harrier, a Buzzard, a Jay, a Swallow, 2 Brambling and 94 Siskin.

 A brief wind-restricted morning ringing session at Aylmer Avenue yielded 3 new birds: a Redwing and 2 Blackbird; and 2 retraps: a Wren and a Dunnock.

October 26th. Birds around, including those trapped, were 11 Dark-bellied Brent Goose, a Sparrowhawk, a Marsh Harrier, a Buzzard, a Woodcock, 9 Redwing, a Song Thrush, a Blackbird, a Stonechat, a Jay, a Chiffchaff and 4 Goldcrest. On Tennyson's Sands were 7 Whooper Swan, 3 Avocet, 66 Black-tailed Godwit, a Spotted Redshank, a Greenshank and a Redshank; and on Jackson's Marsh 2000 Pink-footed Goose (then south), 41 Whooper Swan (then south-west), a Grey Heron and a Redshank. Going south-west were 25 Pink-footed Goose; north-west 35 Pink-footed Goose; north a Great Skua; and south 285 Pink-footed Goose, 43 Little Gull, 3 Arctic Skua, a Swallow, a House Martin, 59 Skylark, 2 Grey Wagtail, 49 Rock Pipit, 5 Meadow Pipit, 8 Greenfinch, 274 Siskin, 87 Brambling, 34 Redpoll, 77 Chaffinch, 268 Goldfinch, 137 Linnet, a Lapland Bunting, a Yellowhammer and 30 Reed Bunting.

 A morning ringing session in East Dunes, with Kyle Campbell, provided 7 new birds: 2 Goldcrest, a Robin, a Reed Bunting, a Song Thrush, a Blackbird and a Jay; and 2 retraps: a Wren and a Blackbird.

October 25th. Around, including birds trapped, were 2 Sparrowhawk, a Marsh Harrier, a Woodcock, 15 Redwing, 24 Song Thrush, 39 Blackbird, 2 Stonechat, a Chiffchaff, 3 Goldcrest, 2 Jay and a Brambling. Offshore were 25 Little Gull and 2 Arctic Skua. On Jackson's Marsh were 44 Black-tailed Godwit and a Redshank; and on Tennyson's Sands 2500 Pink-footed Goose (then south-west), a female Mandarin Duck, 3 Avocet, a Greenshank, a Spotted Redshank and a Cetti's Warbler. Heading south-west were 7 Dark-bellied Brent Goose, 18 Whooper Swan and 10 Jay; north 71 Little Gull; and south 150 Pink-footed Goose, 249 Wigeon, a Goldeneye, a Buzzard, 4 Sandwich Tern, a Swallow, a House Martin, 6 Song Thrush, 65 Redwing and 2 Brambling. In off the sea came 60 Pink-footed Goose and a Short-eared Owl; and in onto Jackson's Marsh were 22 Whooper Swan.

 A morning ringing session in East Dunes, with Kyle Campbell, produced 21 new birds: a Chiffchaff, a Goldcrest, a Chaffinch, a Brambling, 4 Redwing, 4 Song Thrush and 9 Blackbird; and 2 retraps: a Wren and a Dunnock.

October 24th. Moderately strong southerly wind.

 Birds around, including those trapped, were a Sparrowhawk and 2 Goldcrest. On Tennyson's Sands were 700 Pink-footed Goose, 3 Avocet and 6 Black-tailed Godwit; and on Jackson's Marsh 44 Black-tailed Godwit and 33 Little Egret. Flying north-west were 150 Pink-footed Goose; north 5 Velvet Scoter, a Sandwich Tern, a Great Skua, a Manx Shearwater and a Buzzard; and south 5 Dark-bellied Brent Goose, 160 Pink-footed Goose, 2 Scaup, 41 Eider, a Marsh Harrier, 38 Little Gull, 4 Sandwich Tern, 2 Arctic Tern, 2 Merlin, a House Martin and 35 Siskin. Two Grey Phalarope came in from the north and landed on the sea.

 A brief wind-restricted morning ringing session at Aylmer Avenue resulted in a new Goldcrest; and 3 retraps: a Goldcrest, a Blue Tit and a Sparrowhawk.

October 23rd. Around, including birds trapped, were 4 Dark-bellied Brent Goose, a Sparrowhawk, 3000 Grey Plover, 60000 Knot, 4800 Bar-tailed Godwit, 7000 Dunlin, 2500 Sanderling, 2 Snipe, a Merlin, a Peregrine, a Goldcrest, a Redwing, a Blackbird, a Brambling and a Lesser Redpoll. On Tennyson's Sands were 500 Pink-footed Goose, 2 Water Rail, 3 Avocet, a Greenshank and a Cetti's Warbler; and on the Mere a Water Rail. Going west were 180 Pink-footed Goose and 20 Redwing; north a Red-necked Grebe and 2 Little Gull; south 8 Dark-bellied Brent Goose, 110 Pink-footed Goose, 2 Goosander, 2 Goldeneye, 104 Little Gull, 3 Sandwich Tern, an Arctic Skua, a Pomarine Skua, 3 Great Skua, 5 Redwing, 3 Brambling, 3 Lesser Redpoll, 159 Siskin and a Hawfinch; and south-west onto Wainfleet Marsh fields 67 Whooper Swan.

 A morning ringing session in East Dunes provided 6 new birds: a Goldcrest, a Lesser Redpoll, a Reed Bunting, a Goldfinch, a Redwing and a Blackbird; and 4 retraps: a Wren, 2 Dunnock and a Goldfinch.

October 22nd. Moderately strong south-westerly wind.

 A Yellow-browed Warbler was discovered in East Dunes. Birds around, including those trapped, were 50 Dark-bellied Brent Goose,2 Sparrowhawk, a Buzzard, a Snipe, a Merlin, a Peregrine, 2 Chiffchaff, a Blackcap, 5 Goldcrest, 73 Redwing, a Fieldfare, 6 Blackbird and 4 Stonechat. Off of Tennyson's Sands roost came 4000 Pink-footed Goose. On Tennyson's Sands were 3 Avocet, 51 Black-tailed Godwit and a Cetti's Warbler; and on the Mere 2 Snipe. Heading south were 241 Whooper Swan, 80 Pink-footed Goose, a Marsh Harrier, a Snipe, a Common Tern, 2 Sandwich Tern, 1280 Woodpigeon, 9 Swallow, 5 House Martin, 58 Siskin, a Lesser Redpoll and 3 Snow Bunting; west 110 Pink-footed Goose; east 60 Pink-footed Goose and 2 Jay; and north 4 Kittiwake, 87 Little Gull, 3 Arctic Skua, a Great Skua and a Manx Shearwater. Onto Tennyson's Sands came 26 Whooper Swan.

 A wind-restricted morning ringing session at Aylmer Avenue produced 7 new birds: 2 Wren, a Goldcrest, 3 Redwing and a Blackbird; and 5 retraps: a Wren, a Goldcrest, a Dunnock, a Robin and a Long-tailed Tit.

October 21st. Moderately strong north-westerly wind, with early morning rain.

 Around were 5 Dark-bellied Brent Goose. On Jackson's Marsh were 6 Black-tailed Godwit; and on Tennyson's Sands a Redshank and a Greenshank. Heading south-west were 36 Pink-footed Goose and 6 Whooper Swan; south 7 Great Skua, a Pomarine Skua, 2 Arctic Skua and 4 Arctic Tern; and north a Common Tern.
