August 10th. Slowly increasing north-easterly wind.
Heading south were 5 Swallow; and north a Marsh Harrier. Birds around, including those trapped, were a Green Sandpiper, 2 Turtle Dove, a Grasshopper Warbler, a Garden Warbler, 2 Wood Warbler and 30 Pied Flycatcher.
A wind-shortened morning ringing session in East Dunes provided 2 new birds: a Willow Warbler and a Grasshopper Warbler; and 5 retraps: 2 Great Tit, a Dunnock, a Whitethroat and a Wren. The Grasshopper Warbler was a not-full-grown juvenile, presumably from a second or replacement brood.

August 9th. Moderately strong north-easterly wind, slowly decreasing.
Flying south were 2 Whimbrel and 2 Swallow; and north an Osprey. Birds around included a Garden Warbler, a Wood Warbler, a Redstart, 6 Pied Flycatcher and 2 Tree Pipit.
A wind-restricted morning ringing session in East Dunes produced 8 new birds: a Willow Warbler, a Wren, a Sedge Warbler, 2 Linnet, a Goldfinch, a Whitethroat and a Woodpigeon; and 4 retraps: a Great Tit, 2 Whitethroat and a Dunnock.
August 8th. Increasing north-easterly wind.
Around, including birds trapped, were 2 Kestrels and a Whinchat. Going south were a Whimbrel and 5 Swallow. There was a continuous movement of terns from their southern roosts on the morning rising tide. Some continued north up the coast, while others settled on the Greenshanks Ridge system where they were joined by the morning wader roost. Those involved were 305 Little Tern, 3516 Sandwich Tern, 1083 Common, 34 Arctic Tern and 249 Commic Tern.
A wind-shortened morning ringing session in East Dunes resulted in 6 new birds: 3 Willow Warbler, a Chiffchaff, a Whinchat and a Song Thrush; and 4 retraps: a Lesser Whitethroat, a Dunnock, a Great Tit and a Whitethroat.

August 7th. Very hot and sunny.
Heading south were 2 Turtle Dove, a Peregrine, 4 House Martin and 11 Swallow. Birds around, including those trapped, were a Whimbrel, a Sparrowhawk, 2 Kestrel and a Pied Flycatcher (first of autumn).
A morning ringing session in East Dunes provided 13 new birds: 3 Willow Warbler, a Chiffchaff, 2 Lesser Whitethroat, a Robin, 5 Whitethroat and a Sparrowhawk; and 8 retraps: a Great Tit, 4 Whitethroat, 2 Dunnock and a Wren.

August 6th. Around were a Green Woodpecker and 2 Kestrel. Flying south were 3 Swift and 2 Swallow.
A morning ringing session in East Dunes produced 17 new birds: 6 Willow Warbler, 2 Wren, 6 Whitethroat, 2 Goldfinch and a Song Thrush; and 7 retraps: 2 Whitethroat, 3 Wren and 2 Dunnock.
A morning ringing session at Aylmer Avenue by Mike Polling produced 26 new birds: 3 Willow Warbler, 2 Chiffchaff, 2 Wren, 5 Whitethroat, 4 Reed Warbler, 2 Blackcap, 4 Sedge Warbler, a Blue Tit, 2 Goldfinch, a Great Tit and a Dunnock, and 8 retraps: 4 Dunnock, a Blue Tit, a Willow Warbler, a Linnet and a Wren.

August 5th. Quite strong south-westerly wind all day.
There was a large south-west passage of Swift in the morning, and a smaller south-west passage of hirundines all day. Birds around included a Green Woodpecker and 2 Kestrel.
August 4th. A Wood Warbler was discovered around Sykes Farm in the evening. Around, including birds trapped, were a Pink-footed Goose, 5 Eider, a Water Rail, 350 Oystercatcher, 72 Ringed Plover, 12 Whimbrel, 45 Curlew, 145 Black-tailed godwit, 14 Turnstone, 1450 Knot, 1700 Sanderling, 5500 Dunlin, a Common Sandpiper, 95 Redshank, 3 Spotted Redshank, a Greenshank, 4 Yellow-legged Gull, a juvenile Caspian Gull, 101 Little Tern, 2 Spoonbill, 2 Green Woodpecker, a Peregrine,4 Wheatear and a Yellowhammer. Going south were 5 Swift, a Wood Sandpiper, 4 Sand Martin, 15 Swallow, 2 Yellow Wagtail and 2 Alba Wagtail.
The tenth session of CES was done this morning. The 68 new birds were 3 Wren, 8 Willow Warbler, 5 Chiffchaff, 17 Blackcap, a Robin, 2 Sedge Warbler, 4 Lesser Whitethroat, 3 Reed Warbler, 13 Whitethroat, 4 Great Tit, a Goldfinch, a Blue Tit, a Yellowhammer, 3 Dunnock and a Blackbird. The 11 retraps were 2 Robin, a Wren, 2 Long-tailed Tit, 4 Chiffchaff, a Dunnock and a Blackcap.
